Job title and labor regulations
The job title “Patentanwalt” (“Patent Attorney”) is granted by the Federal Republic of Germany.
The job title “European Patent Attorney” is granted by the European Patent Office.
Legitimation to use the job titles European Trademark Attorney and European Design Attorney is attained through registration in the list of professional representatives at the European Union Intellectual Property Office pursuant to Art. 120 of the Regulation (EU) 2017/1001 of the European Parliament and of the Council of June 14, 2017 on the European Union trade mark. Authority of grant of this job title remains at the European Union.

In the event of disputes between patent attorneys or legal attorneys and their clients, there is the option to settle the matter extra-judicially at the regional patent attorney resp- legal attorney societies (under Section 69 (2) No. 3 of the Federal Regulations for Patent Attorneys, PAO, resp. Section 73 (2) No. 3 in combination with Section 73 (5) of the Federal Regulations for Attorneys, BRAO) or at the arbitration body of the Bundesrechtsanwaltskammer (German Law Society) (Section 191f BRAO), which can be found on the Internet at the website of the German Law Society (http://www.brak.de, e-mail: ). We are not obliged and generally not willing to participate in dispute resolution proceedings before an arbitration board of the legal profession.
